I am looking forward to receiving feedback from you regarding your use of the book and your suggestions for making it better for future editions. I hope you find this book to be useful for the individuals who you treat as you make the transition from the MMPI to the MMPI-2. When there is no indication that the MMPI2 was used, then you can assume that the data being reported were generated from the MMPI. When the research that is being reported has used the MMPI-2, I have indicated that in my report of that research. In order to distinguish which test has been used in the research that I am reporting, you can use the following guidelines. Since 1989, research regarding the MMPI-2 has started to appear while articles using the MMPI also have continued to be published.

All of the research reported that is prior to 1989 has been developed using the MMPI. I believe much of the inform ation that is given for the MMPI is also useful for the MMPI-2 with the modifications that I have suggested in Chapter II, Interpreting the MMPI, and at the beginning of each of the validity and clinical scales. I do read every one of the feedback pages that is sent to me, and many of the suggestions that you have given me in the past have been incorporated into this latest edition of the book.īecause many of you are still using the MMPI, I also have included inform ation regarding this test, especially pertinent research findings that have been published since the last edition of this book in 1986. In the back of the book is a feedback page for you to suggest articles that you have found useful and for you to give suggestions about interpreting the MMPI-2 that you have found helpful with your clients. This is where you can be of immense help in developing future editions of this book. How successful these adaptations are to the clients who you treat is also unknown at the present time. Whether I still will agree with all of these adaptations after further years of working with the test is unknown as of now, but hopefully, most of them will stand the test of time. I have tried out these suggested adaptations with clients who I have treated in the past five years, since the publication of the MMPI-2, and have been satisfied that these are the best ways to use this new test. I have tried to do this in each of the sections dealing with the validity, clinical and supplementary scales of the test. Primarily these adaptations have meant taking research material that was developed from the original MMPI and trying to fit it to the MMPI-2.

This lack of knowledge about the specific applications of the MMPI-2 to the individuals who most of us deal with has meant that adaptations are necessary in order to use this new test. normal people under stress whether in mental health clinics, private practice, or college counseling centers). Because the MMPI-2 is so new, five years old, there is still much that is unknown about it and its application to the population with which this book is mainly concerned (e.g. This is a transition book, a book that reflects the transition from the MMPI to the MMPI-2.
